Confide in Me?featured

This is a painting that I struggled with because, as usual, I tried to do it on my own and ended up with a mess!  Then, as usual, God began to redeem my mess once I let him direct my path.  I began to see the face of Jesus in the painting and then, two people having a conversation. Even though I ended up with an acceptable painting (although I do think it is a bit strange looking!), I still struggled with a title for this painting.  What was really going on in this painting?

A few days ago, I was reading Psalm 25 and when I got to verse 14 – Boom!  It says, “The Lord confides in those who fear Him; He makes His covenant known to them.”  I have no idea if I had ever read this verse before, but this time the word “confide” hit me between the eyes.  What! The Lord of all of the universes wants to confide in me?  I can picture Him confiding in Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, and the folks destined for official sainthood, but me?

Going to God and confiding in Him makes sense to me.  I confide in people I trust.  I think we all want to share our deepest thoughts and feelings in a safe environment.  Who better to trust than God?  I can pour out my heart to Him when I am distressed or anxious and also when I am overflowing with joy.  I know that my prayers are precious to Him. Psalm 66: 19-20 says, “But God has surely listened and has heard my prayer.  Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!”

Now, I can wrap my head around God talking to me – but confiding in me?   Could it be that He considers me a safe place to share His deepest thoughts?  Because of the work Jesus did on the cross, He does consider me trustworthy to receive His insights and wisdom and His plans for me.  It is amazing to me that this is a privilege that is given to all Christians. He also trusts you and me to do more than just think, “Wow, good stuff God!”  In John 14:15, Jesus says, “If you love me, you will obey what I command.”  He confides in us so that we will put His confidences into action. He actually trusts us to obey Him; and through the power of the Holy Spirit, he gives us the power to actually do it – amazing!

I don’t know about you, but my history of being trustworthy in dealing with His confidences is not particularly stellar.  What does that say about how much I love Him?  The good news is that His grace is greater than my failures!  In His eyes, I am still trustworthy, and He still confides in me.  What better confidant could any of us have? My prayer is that through the power of the Holy Spirit, all of us will demonstrate our love for Him and respond in obedience to His confidences.

And by the way, the title of this painting is “Confidants.” [jetpack_subscription_form]
